BTFC entertained Northampton Sileby Rangers in only the second home league game of the season and managed to get a 3-2 victory.
The game set off and both teams were trying to settle on what was a very poor pitch!! this at times really did not help Buckingham's passing game and at times frustrated the players.
The opener was created and scored by James Wardell, he cut in from the right handside, and volleyed from 18 yrds with the outside of his left foot, the ball flew past the Seilby Keeper into the back of the net, it was a well taken goal and gave Wardell 7 goals in 11 appearances. The game was starting to open up and Buckingham started to control certain area's of the pitch, but at times were losing their shape that could have caused a few problems, but Matt Bines didn't really get tested in the BTFC goal and the teams went in at 1-0
The second half was a mixed affair, Sileby had to step up their game and for a 15 minute period put BTFC players under pressure.
A change was needed and Kyle Stimpson made way for Chris Robson and it was Robsons hold up play and perfect pass that gave the opportunity for Ben Shepherd to score his first league goal of the season to make it 2-0
Sileby didn't give up and kept knocking on the door of the BTFC defence and managed to get a goal back on the counter attack.
Nick Bines was then introduced from the bench and within 10 minutes got Buckingham's third goal of the afternoon, Bines used his pace and exploited the Sileby right back and managed to hit a perfect shot that ended up hitting the post!! - the rebound was picked up by Bines himself who didn't hesitate on his second go and fired home a well taken goal
1 minute from time Sileby were awarded a penalty for a push this was to the amazement of the BTFC players.
Matt Bines then came into his own and showed why he is so important to this team, Bines dived to his left and made a superb save only for the rebound to go to a Sileby player who shot from 5 yards only for Bines to make another superb save but it was the further rebound that fell to Sileby player who put the ball in the back of the net
The ref blew the whistle for full time and the 3 points were gained.
All in all it was not a great performance, and at times we lost our shape but saying that we set out to get 3 points and that is what we achieved.
Just a quick point to make, I really appreciate people coming to watch us play and enjoy seeing the support for the team, but at times we get so much negative feedback from spectators this frustrates me as a manager. We rarely get praised for wins, but get so many negative comments when we lose!
I believe supporters are their to SUPPORT and should be positive at all times to help this new team progress. Put it into perspective, if someone was shouting at you in a negative way how would you react!!
We need to realise some of theses players are in their early 20's and we are trying to develop them individually and as a team, so positivity is key to this, and I would like that to come from all parties including the supporters.
