Buckingham Town have achieved the FA Charter Standard for excellence

Ampthill Town 1-0 Buckingham Town - Friendly

Today new Manager Neil Griffiths took the squad for a friendly away at Ampthill Town of the South Mids Premier Division due to a lack of competitive fixture for either side.

It was a day to try new players, formations and ideas and nobody let themselves down in what was a decent game to watch, Ampthill dominated the first half and were well worth their 1-0 halftime lead but Buckingham Town came into the game second half and gave it a really good go.

Ampthill were very hospitable today and I would like to say thanks to Craig and Steve for the game and wish them all the best for the FA Vase game against Enfield next week.

I'm sure Neil has a few headaches in team selection moving forward and that is never a bad thing.

New Signings

As part of the exciting new era at Buckingham Town FC Neil Griffiths has been hard at work with player recruitment and we can now announce his hard work has lead to five excellent signings so far.

Pictured above from left to right in the bottom row are experienced defender Julian Old who has played in the Southern League for Aylesbury Utd, Leighton Town and Barton Rovers, Ex Leighton Town and Olney Town fullback Paul Blackwell and Striker Ben Gallant who scored 17 Southern League goals for Leighton Town in the 2010/11 season and has been their player of the year previously.  Ben has made plenty of appearances in the Southern League this term and has been a fairly regular scorer.

We can also confirm the signing of former Chester City player Anish Khinda, Anish has played in the UCL previously but has turned out for Kettering Town FC this season.  Joining the BTFC family for a second time is Domenico Marsala, remembered by Robins fans as a hot prospect from his first spell and we look forward  to seeing him in our colours again. 

We are extremely lucky to have secured the services of these quality players and Neil Griffiths deserves every credit.

All five go straight in to the squad for the Wootton game but Neil was once again keen to stress that all current Buckingham Town players will be given their chance to impress going forward.

First Team Manager

As has already been announced via the forum on this website we can now confirm the appointment of Neil Griffiths as First Team Manager at Buckingham Town Football Club.

Neil joins us with a good track record in the UCL over the past couple of seasons taking local rivals Olney Town FC from a bottom 3 club to a top 4 finish in his first season in charge and his team have proven to be a thorn in our side during his time there, we haven't managed to beat them in the last 5 attempts.  Neil is a tireless worker and is constantly looking to improve both himself, the club he works for and the team.

Neil will be joined by his Assistant Manager from Olney Town Gary Thurston, Gary played for Newport Pagnell Town FC as a youngster as well as a 3 year stint at Long Buckby.  Gary has coached at the MK Dons Academy and has played and coached in America.

It is officially their first day in charge and Neil will be taking the team for Wednesdays away trip to Wootton Blue Cross.

Neil is already working hard on communicating his ideas to the existing squad and is keen to give all players a chance to be a part of his plans but he is also aware of the need to strengthen an often depleted squad and add some good quality players.

We are delighted to have been able to appoint Neil Griffiths as First Team Manager and 2013 promises to be an exciting time.

Robins Reserves 2-0 Wolverton Town Res

Football resumed on Saturday at Buckingham Town as the reserves took on Wolverton Town reserves at Brackley in the North Bucks League. Despite being at the foot of the table Wolverton, with a string of new signings, put up stubborn resistance and held out until the 20th minute when top scorer Lee Dawson glanced home a Ross Atkins cross. The advantage was doubled ten minutes before the break with a 30 yard thunderbolt from Felix Lowe and it looked as though the Robins might run riot.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first but Buckingham failed to convert any of the chances that came along. Wolverton were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes but the spot kick was brilliantly saved by keeper Steve Litster and the clean sheet was preserved.
