Another encouraging showing today as this young group of players picked up their first win of the season (The previous win was with a completely different set of players back in August).
The back four of Sam Benson, Lewis Hayes, Ollie Bruce and Joe Smith all performed solidly in front of Zac Wade in goal and rarely looked threatened. Mike went 5 across midfield with Corey Ringer on the right, Jason Gardiner on the left and skipper Jamie Hyde one of 3 centre mids alongside Jimmy Richardson and Jeff Boateng Bekoe, Josh Whitehead was the lone front man.
Wolverton went one up early with a wonder strike but BTFC hit back almost immediately as Jamie Hyde reacted quickest in the six yard box following a Josh Whitehead knock down. Jeff Boateng Bekoe put BTFC 2-1 ahead with a well taken goal later in the first half and in truth the young Robins could have won by a much more comfortable margin as they failed to capitalise on several one on ones.
It certainly wasn't the best Wolverton Town team I have seen in recent times but I don't want to take anything away from the boys today, they have come a long way this season and with the right support, coaching and opportunities they will continue to flourish.
I thought all the lads played well today particularly Sam at right back, Lewis Hayes won pretty much every header at centre back and showed good recovery pace. Jimmy Richardson gave a tidy and hard working performance in the more defensive midfield role and Jamie Hyde worked his socks off and led by example. Jeff Boateng Bekoe appears to be one of those exciting players with bags of skill and with a bit more coaching (mainly when to release the ball!) he could be one to watch. I was impressed with Josh Whitehead too who showed a maturity above his years, he worked tirelessly in what can be a thankless lone striker role and did a great job for the team.
Hopefully they can build on this result between now and the end of the season.
