Chairmans Report

I have been asked to put this weeks report on the web site with a small change as I was 8 months out with one of my facts. :)

I couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the Greek people’s situation and that of Buckingham Town, through no fault of our own we find ourselves paying for the actions and others miss management and unsustainable spending. But unlike the Greek people we will not have to suffer for ten years to get back to where we were. In truth we will be financially better off and in better facilities in probably two years.

I know the Winslow Centre is not perfect and given the choice we would not be here but this is where we are and it was the last and only venue approved by the league, but if we are honest the pitch is no worse that Ford Meadow after its 90+ games and 50 ton of sand. And yes we don’t have stands here but no one really used them at Ford Meadow.

I guess what I am saying is, it’s not great but we all need to get on with it and we are in a much better place than Rushden and Diamonds or Kettering and many other clubs.

Looking at a 10 to15 mile radius of Buckingham, there are four clubs who play at a higher level than us, Aurdley, Brackley, Newport Pagnell and the MK Dons and to be fare they all pay high wages and have the pick of the best players, although the Dons and Brackley don’t sign local players, and Aurdley don’t draw from our catchments area. But that’s it, only four.

When we move to our new home, with the exception of Stadium MK we will have the best ground locally and offer a good level of football, we should have our pick of the players; although I would hope we will remember those who have supported us through these dark times.

With over 40,000 football clubs, England has more clubs involved in the code than any other country. However there are only 273 full or associate member clubs which make up the FA, of which Buckingham Town is one.

Buckingham Town was formed in 1883, as we all know, which makes us older than Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham, not to mention, the Eiffel Tower, The Statue of Liberty and Tower Bridge, I could go on but you get the picture.

Buckingham Town has lasted through two world wars, Queen Victoria, Edward VII , George V , Edward VIII, Jack the Ripper, Vincent van Gogh, Tchaikovsky, so we can take a blip in our very long history, to put things in place for our next 129 years.

Some interesting facts from the web site stats, amount of people and the countries who have viewed our site: United Kingdom 2,769, United States 367, Russia 198, Germany 122, Singapore 71, Spain 60, Latvia 42, Sweden 20, Ukraine 20, Brazil 19

We are not a small club and we have a great and proud history, 129 years and counting.
Once again I would like to thank all our fans for their patients and support.
