Buckingham Town 4-0 Burton Park Wanderers

Thanks to everyone who came to watch, it was good to get back to football after a difficult week.

Keeping it short, Burton Park came at us for 20 minutes but didn't score, we were comfortable from then onwards, 0-0 at halftime.  Ben Shepherd lit the blue touch paper early in the 2nd half with a left foot smash into the roof of the net after a typical jinking run.  Shortly after, an unfortunate BPW defender hooked one over his own keeper from 30 yards, he was being hassled by Ben (who claims the ball touched him on the way in) 2-0 and starting to look safer.

Ben Shepherd smacked in his 2nd (he says 3rd!) from 25 yards and Nick Bines got in on the act with a scissor kick, 4-0 and job done.  Well done to all the lads, we were down to the bare bones again but they turned in a good performance.

We host Oadby Town next week, they are in the top 2 and strongly fancied for promotion, I don't think it will end 0-0 so will be worth a look.  With 26 goals we are the highest scoring team outside the top 6 but with the against column showing 46 we've also conceded more than anyone.  Should be plenty of goals then.

Buckingham Town 5-3 Whitworths

So the order of the day after a nightmare on Tuesday was to tighten up, play the percentages and hope for a quiet, uneventful close game which we try and nick 1-0 late on, not quite how it went in the end but then again we are Buckingham Town.

I tweaked it a bit yesterday and I must say there were a few raised eyebrows when I announced Carl Knox on pitch in the starting 11, I think the lads were waiting for the men in white coats to come and take me away.  Knoxy was actually involved in one of my favourite bits of the match, not his well taken goal or even the celebration but the sliding tackle where he won the ball and knocked over one of their players, one of our players (his mate aswell!) and narrowly missed the linesman, this epitomised the desire that ran through the whole side yesterday.

I was very disappointed to concede so early again, especially knowing what normally happens next (shipping 5 or 6 goals) and  having lined up a bit more defensively, we cannot afford to keep going
0-1 down inside the first 5 minutes.  Fortunately Demarlo Smith crashed in a left foot drive and Carl Knox headed in from a quality Ben Shepherd cross to put us 2-1 up at the break.

The second half was packed full of incident and the scoring went 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3 then 5-3 as we finally did enough to win, Demarlo raced away from the defence to add his second and Drew Mitten scored a cheeky chip before grabbing his second after pressurising their keeper into a bad mistake.

The score was already 5-3 when things turned a bit ugly, with about 8 minutes left we were defending a corner when a scuffle broke out in the box which seemed to take forever to sort out.  I obviously cannot condone violent conduct but Matt Bines saw red for defending a team mate who had (allegedly) been struck 3 times by an opponent right in front of him, it's difficult to criticise his actions because it was a human reaction to help a team mate and in some respects this is commendable.  Whitworths had two sent off also and we saw the game out.

We had a good team spirit yesterday and everyone chipped in all the way to the end, we were also a lot more ruthless in front of goal than we have been previously, goals win games!

Thanks to the supporters who came yesterday, it was nice to see so many familiar faces and hopefully see you all there on Wednesday night.

Last Night

Sometimes you just have to take your medicine and get on with it, I have been asked by several players not to put a detailed match report from last night on here such was the humiliating nature of the defeat.

I won't put anyone through the pain of it but I will just say that we did hit the post three times and have two goals disallowed, it was just the bits that happened in between that were not so good (understatement).  The main difference was Olney's pacey front man Stewart Allen who scored after a couple of minutes and terrorised our defence for pretty much the entire game, it's worth noting that he had only played in 3 of Olney's 11 league matches prior to last night and I would suggest that they are a different proposition when he's not playing.

I don't think there is a single player that would attempt to defend their performance last night and they were quick to take the blame afterwards, however I have to take a large chunk of blame myself..... I got it wrong last night on a number of levels.  Massimo Colucci was a major doubt for the game because of work but once he had made himself available at about 3pm I probably should have started him, he has arguably been our best defender of late.  I threw Pat Diamond and Nick Bines straight in after injury lay offs and they were both feeling it last night, along with those mistakes I also started Darryl Phillips and Alex Carroll who were both carrying injuries.  My biggest mistake was getting the technical ability to battling qualities ratio wrong, we tried to play tippy tappy intricate football against a team who got in our faces and wanted it more.  As soon as the going got tough we collectively disappeared back in to our shells and gave up, I've never seen so many half hearted tackles in my life.

We will stumble battered and bruised back on to the battle field on Saturday and any player who is not prepared to roll their sleeves up and give their all to Buckingham Town for 90 minutes should stay at home

Rushden & Higham 2-1 Buckingham Town

A Tuesday night trip to Hayden Road ended similarly to our recent Harrowby excursion, having been behind we looked as if we'd done enough to secure a point only to be cruelly denied.  This time it was a freak goal five minutes from time, a mishit left wing cross which sailed over Carl Knox, hit the post and bar and then dropped agonisingly in to the net.

What went before that, I'm sure those who came to support us (thanks) would agree was an entertaining battle with both teams attacking in a very open game on a slick surface which lead to a fairly fast and frenetic game.  We are still unsure at the back and were once again indebted to our keeper for another fine display but having kept them out for so long then equalised almost immediately after they scored I think we could have got more from this game.

The positives from the game were a solid debut for Matt France at right back, an excellent display from18 year old Massimo Colucci at centre back and the strike partnership of Drew Mitten & Kyle Stimpson which is starting to look impressive, the latter scoring again to make it 4 goals in his last 3 games.

Now the bit which probably won't inspire any fans to travel to Raunds Town on Saturday, we will be without Carl Knox, Matt France, Pat Diamond, Darryl Phillips for definite (almost our entire back line) and Nick Bines is a major doubt having picked up an injury on Tuesday.  I'm sure we will dig in and give all we can, any away support will be gladly received as ever.

Buckingham Town 2-5 Eynesbury

We started yesterdays game with only one change from the side which were unlucky not to get a point at Harrowby last week, it was a big change though- Pat Diamond missed out through injury and young Massimo Colucci had to deputise.

I guess most people would think it unwise to openly speak on here about our weaknesses but lets face it, we are going to concede corners anyway and it won't take long for the opposition to notice................ WE CAN'T DEFEND SET PIECES.  In truth Eynesbury had a lot of chances in open play too but they either wasted them or the very busy Carl Knox pulled off great saves in goal, with an average age of about 19 I think our back line can be forgiven for a bit of inexperience but if we don't learn to deal with corners and free kicks coming into our box soon it will be a very long season.

We were hamstrung by the concession of an early goal from an Eynesbury corner, with fragile confidence and a young side, conceding early will always lead to a dip in performance and we duly dipped as Eynesbury added a second from another corner and then a third as we were dispossessed in a dangerous area and allowed their midfielder to run through unopposed and beat Carl Knox, were it not for Carl the scoreline could have been much worse. 0-3 at halftime.

We spoke about not giving up and showing more fight and pride at halftime and things looked on the up as Kyle Stimpson headed in from a Nick Bines cross early in the 2nd half 1-3.  Sadly, our inability to defend set pieces cost us dearly again just as we were looking dangerous.  A left wing freekick floated in to our box found three unmarked players at the far post, one of whom headed down for another unmarked player to score, 1-4 and game over.

At 1-4 we started to play our best football of the match (too late!) with Nick Bines spraying passes around and the full backs overlapping the wingers and getting crosses into the box, Kyle Stimpson grabbed his second goal after taking the ball off of their keeper and slotting into an empty net.  We committed men forward in search of a third with an improbable comeback on the cards at 2-4 but Eynesbury caught us with a sucker punch goal as they counter attacked down the left, 2-5 and thats how it ended.

Lessons to be learned and quickly, away at Rushden & Higham this Tuesday night.

Harrowby Utd 3-2 Buckingham Town

We travelled the 80 or so miles to Grantham yesterday with thirteen players including last minute signings Demarlo Smith and Sol Kazongo.

Perhaps it is just my childish sense of humour that made me chuckle when our hosts blared out Cher's "If I could turn back time" over their tannoy system as we entered their 80's style venue (not that we have much to crow about on that front).

On to the important bit, having been comprehensively beaten by Harrowby seven days prior it was going to be massively important not to concede early on but pretty much from the first whistle we found ourselves under pressure.  They are a lively side with two quick wingers, a livewire centre forward who runs the channels all day and stretches defences and experienced goalscorer Martin Wormall.

We were fairly organised in defence and kept it tight in the first half without offering much going forward, despite being tougher to break down this week Harrowby still had lots of chances and our goal lead a charmed life.  Carl Knox made some good saves and Pat Diamond cleared one off the line so we made it through to half time 0-0.

Having discussed the importance of another solid ten minutes without conceding in the second half during the interval our resistance was broken within 90 seconds of the restart, Martin Wormall heading home from a long diagonal in to the box.  Almost immediately the hosts broke down the left and Sam Webb smashed home a volley, 2-0 Harrowby and fears of a repeat of last week starting to appear.  The difference this time was that we got back in the game quickly as Drew Mitten scored from a sharply taken short corner which caught Harrowby cold, 2-1.  Harrowby started to look a bit nervy and their once confident swagger was reduced to carelessly giving the ball away and gaps appearing in their defence.  With about 15 minutes to go Kyle Stimpson arrived in the box late to power a bullet header in to the net following good work from Mitten down the right, 2-2.  We were in the ascendancy for the next 10 minutes or so as the hosts fell in to disarray but we just couldn't carve out that winning goal, then in injury time Martin Wormall headed home a left wing corner which was a real choker.  To see how Harrowby's Management team celebrated by running on the pitch like they had just won the Champions League should give all concerned with the Robins great heart, they knew they were in a game and were lucky to walk away with the points, in fact two of their club officials  came in the dressing room after and said we deserved something out of the game which was a nice touch.

All in all the boys who pulled the shirts on yesterday and battled their socks off deserve a lot of credit and it will get better.

Grendon Res 0-4 BTFC Development

It was a good start for Larry and the Development Squad in their quest for promotion tonight as they comfortably brushed Grendon aside in their own backyard.

Dan Dellvalle got the scoring under way in the first half and Jamie Dellvalle added a second before half time to give us a nice cushion going into the break.

Larry might have positional discipline issues with his players as two centre backs scored from open play in the second half, first Bobby Cooney broke into the box and tapped in from six yards after great work from Ross Atkins down the right, Richie Wyatt wasn't going to be out done by his defensive colleague though as he won a 40-60 header 40 yards out before powering through unopposed  and slotting calmly into the bottom left hand corner, o-4 and the pressure is now on third centre back Josh Menday to get in on the act!

Starting lineup was J Cox, Atkins, Wyatt, Cooney, Menday, Cox, D Dellvalle, Mowatt, Dawson, Simpson, J Dellvalle

BTFC 0-3 Raunds Town FC

On a boiling hot opening day Buckingham Town stuttered and fell to a 0-3 defeat at our new home.  We were always on the back foot after conceding within the first couple of minutes of the new season.  In truth we had the greater of the possession in the first half but were unable to really trouble the visiting keeper whilst Raunds wasted a few glorious chances to extend their lead, 0-1 at halftime.

Raunds are a hard working team with more graft than guile but they did look dangerous every time they attacked.  Danny Simpson went close to equalising with about 20 minutes to go having been well found by Joel McCormick but his lob went just wide.  Almost immediately after it could have been 1-1 it went to 0-2 as the visitors broke clear and headed a second, then the killer blow came soon after, another header from a long cross into the box, 0-3 and game over.

Good Day For Town

Steve Orchard and his team delivered the James Victory Cup tonight in what has been a good day for the Robins.

Goals from Chris Robson, Nick Bines and Joel McCormick saw off Banbury Utd 3-2 and skipper Ieuan Riley lifted the solid silver trophy much to the delight of the home fans.

Earlier in the day Larry Woodward's Development side punished Wolverton Town's Reserves 8-1 with hot prospect Danny Simpson blasting 5 goals, thats 9 in two games after his 4 goal haul against a Rushden & Diamonds side.  Player Coach Lee Dawson grabbed 2 second half goals having sat out the first half  and there were plenty of other good performances from the likes of David Mowatt and Scott Whitmore.  It was also good to see the likes of Josh Menday and Louis Hayes back in the famous red shirts.

Event: David Wilson Homes lend a hand

We are both proud and excited to be able to announce that a very generous sponsorship arrangement has been finalised with national housebuilder David Wilson South Midlands for the forthcoming season.
David Wilson South Midlands, are building a brand new development at nearby Windsor Park on London Road, Buckingham and they have donated 2000.00 pounds, enabling the club to play the next 20 home games without financial pressures.
Chairman Vince Hyde comments, "We are extremely pleased, David Wilson Homes has been incredibly supportive and we really appreciate it."
"It is a huge relief that David Wilson Homes stepped in at the right time. It is a very large sum of money for us and we are not sure what we would have done without the sponsorship  life would have been very difficult that is for sure."
"It has definitely put a smile on everyones face."
Jackie Day, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, comments "As a housebuilder, we endeavour to support the local communities where we build our developments.
"Buckingham Town FC is such an established club, when we heard of their troubles, we really wanted to support them. We are very pleased we could help them in such a positive way."

Player Meeting 07-06-12

We are holding a player meeting at The Woolpack next Thursday (7th June) at 730pm.  This meeting will be open to players past, present and future and will offer the opportunity to express views, opinions and concerns along with presenting the committee with the chance to talk about future plans and recent decisions etc.

The club would appreciate it if anyone other than playing staff and officials would respect our wishes to be able to speak firstly with players for now (I'm sure there are good vantage points for any would-be eavesdroppers!". Rest assured, the opportunity for everyone concerned with this great old club to get their points across good or bad will be available in the very near future.

Sometimes in life it is necessary to take the "right" decision rather than the "comfortable" decision however difficult and unpopular this may be.  I would like to personally thank Kit for his efforts this season and I'm sure he will take what he has experienced at BTFC and use it in his personal development as his football career progresses.

Kit Leaves Buckingham Town

At a recent meeting football meeting to review the future plans, Kit informed us that after his assistant left towards the end of the season he found it hard doing everything and that he could not find an assistant to replace him. He told us that he was frustrated and 50/50 if he would stay or go. At yesterdays committee meeting the situation was discussed at length and it was felt that we could not wait and hope not to be left without a manager and after careful consideration it was felt that we should find a long term management team for Buckingham Town. We wish Kit all the luck in the future and thank him for all his hard work over the past year. We are now in discussions with several interested parties and hope to announce something over the weekend.

Bourne Town 0 Buckingham Town 0

Bourne Town 0 Buckingham Town 0

The Last game of the season and the 4th game in 8 days, provided a long trip to Bourne Town F.C
After the week the mid week games, it would be easy for players to say that they are injured and not available, but we managed to get 13 players for this game and some of those players were carrying injures.
I would like to say thanks to those players that wanted to play in the penultimate game of the season and although many had tired legs they gave another deserved performance.
The message was clear from myself, I wanted to go above Wootton and gain 42 points. The players were aware of this and for those who came to watch the game, would have seen a tired team again having many chances to win.
The wood work got in the way on a couple of occasions and the Bourne goal keeper made some fantastic saves, especially 1 minute from time when Daley Cross fired a 25 yrd screamer into the top corner only for the keeper to pull off a brilliant save.
So we didn't get the win, and the players and myself were disappointed but they gave the best they could and that's all I could ask of them.

The Season
Where can I start.... Lets say this season has been very challenging, not only with off the field problems, but keeping this team together and for the team to bond. I keep saying to myself, " most of theses players are in their early 20's " they have different personalities, and those personalities sometimes clash.
You have to work out, how to manage those situations and work with those players and talk to them as people.
I had players not turning up for games when they said they would be their, also players pulling out on the Saturday morning, sometimes 2/3 players on one day would pull out - YES this is not acceptable, and I know at times some of the excuses were a " load of old tosh " but I always give players a second chance and opportunity to make things right, some players need a genuine kick up the back side, but some players just need a chat about WHY and HOW they can change for the better.
Lets look at one player Ieuan Riley...( Sorry Ieuan ). For those who know Ieaun he is a good guy off the pitch, polite and easy to get on with, but at time he has let himself, the squad and me down with his actions. Myself and Ieaun have had a number of long conversations and chats about many things as I respect him as a person, he took a lot of those conversations on board and completely changed his attitude towards football and playing, and has been one of the outstanding players in the last 8 weeks.
We have a good bunch lads at the club and so much potential to be more successful as a squad, and over the season we have had some real laughs.
The last 8 weeks the team has played a number of games, with Saturday and midweek fixtures, this gave the opportunity to play "FOOTBALL" the fitness levels and sharpness on the pitch were far better than mid season, and I noticed a massive change in some players. maybe the players that didn't train mid season need to realise that it is so so important to make the effort not only for team moral but to keep their own game and fitness levels up and sharp.

The Good Times
We always forget the good times we have, and look at the negatives, but lets remember how these players helped the club financially with the small run in the FA Vase, and of course beating Ascot and the well drilled win against Winslow.
We managed to get to the semi final of the charity cup against Banbury and put on a classy display in both legs only to go out 5-3 on aggregate.
The Games when we have come from behind to win 4-3 with last minute winners, Sileby Rangers, Raunds away springs to mind, and last Thursday's come back of the season against Bugbrook was our greatest achievement.
All in all - A tough season, the players have learnt that things don't happen over night, we have to pull together to succeed and although at times its hard, we must try and stay as positive as possible and understand that this club and team is in a rebuild.

Thank you also to Jason our physio who has helped players and myself this season, Jason has give his own time to the club and our team, and worked on players injuries when needed.
Cheers mate.
And thank you to Pat,s mum for putting up with my Smutty mouth.

Feet up and Relax !!!!
Cheers Kit.

Robins Show Class

Players win games, teams win championships
Bugbrooke   3    Buckingham Town  4 (Phillips 2, McCormick, Stimpson)

Thursday, 26 April 2012

The come back of the season:

Bugbrooke's hopes of a second placed finish were dashed by Buckingham's second half fightback

" What a performance it was "

The team was slightly rotated as players have been asked to play alot of games in recent weeks and had previously played on Tuesday evening.

Things went well enough for the Badgers in the first half. They opened up a two goal lead through Brad Janes after 20 minutes and Chris Davies eight minutes later -Zac will hold his hands up in the BTFC goal and will learn from those slight errors of judgement he made but lets remember he is only 16..

Daryl Phillips, who was playing centre back was allowed to go up for a corner and replied for Buckingham ten minutes before the interval.

BTFC were on the back foot for most of the half and at times showed some inconsistency in their play, so big words were said at at half time and 3 substitutes were made.

This was a big gamble but the gamble paid off !!

Second Half:

The Second half didnt start the best and the Badgers remained on course for the win which would take them into the final game with a chance of edging Harborough out of second place when Mick Parkes restored their two goal margin after 55 minutes with a superb 20 yard strike that looped over Matt Bines in the BTFC goal.

Then the fight back happened, another corner for BTFC and Phillips reduced the arrears again after 62 minutes -( "Daryl a brace means 2 goals" )

at 3-2 Buckingham became stronger and Bugbrooke had no answer to the BTFC late salvo.

Joel McCormick was inspirational and levelled for the Robins after 82 minutes from a free kick, and then in the 89th minute Matt Bines made a fantastic save and BTFC broke quickly down the right with McCormick feeding a perfect pass to Kyle Stimpson who slotted home for a superb winner.
What a game! Well done lads, outstanding.

Buckingham Charity Cup semi final second leg.

Banbury United 2 - 2 BuckinghamTown (Bines, Wardell)
Banbury win 5 -3 Aggregate

With Banbury United leading 3-1 from the first leg, it was always going to be a test for Buckingham Town to overturn that deficit and reach the final of the Buckingham Charity Cup. However, they got off to the best of starts, with just 5 minutes on the clock, James Wardell found Nick Bines in the area with Bines firing home the opener.

Banbury though equalised just five minutes later through Dior Angus to make the score 1 -1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate.
The Banbury keeper had an outstanding evening, and made a number of saves from McCormick, Shepherd and Bines.
Then Banbury got their second of the night, Buckingham gave away a sloppy free kick, and did not react to the crossed ball and Joe Eyre gave Banbury a 2-1 lead on the night
The Second half was ALL Buckingham, they pushed Banbury back with some quality attacking football, chance after chance came and went, and then a life line was offered, when James Wardell Scored eight minutes into the second half to make it 2 - 2
(Well done to Nick Bines for not touching the ball and letting it roll into the net.)

Buckingham had plenty more chances and dominated possession but failed to convert any those chances so the final score on the night was 2-2, with Banbury United winning 5-3 on aggregate.

Buckingham Town: Zac Wade, Daley Cross (Kyle Stimpson 87), Sam Barker, Daryl Phillips, Jakub Kasprzyk, Ieuan Riley, Ben Shepherd, Graham Sands, James Wardell, Joel McCormick, Nick Bines (Sol Kazongo 78). Subs (not used): Ross Baldwin, Paul Hull, Matt Bines

Thank you to Banbury United for letting us use their Facilities for the two legs, we enjoyed our time their and for those who saw both legs of the semi final, I believe Buckingham Town players made a game of it and played some fantastic football and at times dominated the opposition
Great Sausage and Chips after the game!
Zac polished off 3 helpings..

Another one of those days

Wootton Blue Cross  1    Buckingham Town  1

Saturday, 21 April 2012

Andy Arnold's last match at the Blue Cross helm saw his side share the spoils with the Robins.
Wootton took the lead through Billy Sells after just 90 seconds.
Thereafter they were forced to defend as the visitors bossed the game.
Pat Diamond squared the contest ten minutes into the second half.
The Robins had chance after chance, hitting the woodwork 4 times but could not find the winner.

The story of our season.

6 in 4 for Nick Bines

Nick Bines secured another brace in a fantastic month for his goal tally, Bines has now scored 6 goals in 4 games and could be on his way to leading scorer this season.
The Robins went to Whitworths F.C with just 1 substitute but put on another brilliant team display.
The game was lost 3-2 but I can not complain about the way the players performed, they showed a real togetherness and worked their way back into the game after being 2-0 down.
The team has impressed me over the last 4/5 weeks, we have competed well with some of the top teams and I have been happy with the players commitment on the pitch. The only down fall is that we have lost some of those games and that still leaves the team in the bottom half of the league.

I would like the thank our loyal fans that came to the game on saturday and stood in the stands encouraging the team and clapping, that was really good to see and helped the players motivation. (sorry to Pats mum again for my foul mouth)

The league: The league does not lie and we deserve to be in that position, ALL in ALL, this has been a very difficult season, dedication and motivation from players and management has been hard to work round, but my job was to stabilise the best I could and have worked very hard on my own to do this.

Last-gasp defeat for the Robins

Buckingham Town 2 Harborough Town 3
Buckingham Town suffered late disappointment for the second time in three days as they went down 2-3 to Harborough Town at the Winslow Centre. Harborough went two goals ahead before Kyle Stimpson reduced the deficit after good work from Pat Diamond. Nick Bines appeared to earn the Robins a well earned point when he levelled in the 90th minute, he saw the Harborough goal keeper way off his line and struck a 35 yard shot that looped over everyones head and into the back of the net, a superb piece of vision from a player on top of his game. but visitors still had time to score an injury-time winner and grab all three points with the Robins players holding their heads in their hands in shock.

Robins suffer injury time blow!

Buckingham Town 2 - 2 Raunds Town (Wardell, Bines)
Stoppage time penalty gave the Shopmates only a second point in eight games. Buckingham started the game very well, and created many good chances, Wardell with the majority of those chances and it was on 12 minutes that Wardell scored the opener firing home with his right foot. Buckingham's opener was matched by a Dave Townsend equaliser for Raunds three minutes later with a fantastic strike from 20 yards out. The Robins went back in front through Nick Bines seven minutes before the break. The second half was more open and both teams had a number of half chances, but in the last minute of the game, a tired tackle in the box from MOM Graham Sands gave Raunds penalty and Karl King kept a cool head to score.

Buckingham Charity Cup semi-final

Buckingham Town 1 Banbury United 3
(Cory Lee)
In the first leg of the Buckingham Charity Cup semi-final, played at the Spencer Stadium due to the lack of floodlights at Buckingham Town’s current ground, Banbury United gained a two goal advantage to take into the second leg in three weeks time.
As the game settled down, Both teams began to create chances and it was Banbury who had the better of the two teams.
Buckingham always looked dangerous though and there were then good opportunities for Sol Kazongo and Ben Shepherd but they both put shots wide when they probably should have done better. On 30 minutes a free kick from the right went to Dior Angus at the far post but he shot straight at Zac Wade in the Buckingham goal.

It was however to be Buckingham who would take the lead when, seven minutes before the interval, a superb counter attack down the left, found Cory Lee in plenty of space just inside the Banbury penalty area and he struck the ball past an exposed Jack Harding. The half finished with a long range effort from Harrison Foster being parried away by Wade and then a minute later Jack Harding did well to save from Joel McCormick.

Second half
Two minutes into the second half, a header from Josh Northam was well saved by Wade but the United player was not to be denied just six minutes later when a cross from the left fell to him about 12 yards out and he struck the ball home. On the hour mark, moments after a Northam shot from 20 yards had struck the post, Banbury were given a dubious penalty as the ref felt Joe Eyre was fouled in the penalty area. Dior Angus stepped up to strike the ball high to the goalkeeper’s left to put Banbury 2-1 in front.

Buckingham responded well to going behind and put Banbury under considerable pressure but were unable to find an equaliser. Then in the last minute of the game, with Buckingham pushing forward, they were caught on the break with a good move down the right which ended with a cross being put into the net by Ben Polk from close range to make the final score 3-1 to Banbury.

The second leg will be played at the Spencer Stadium on Tuesday 24th April. The aggregate winners will play Cogenhoe United in the final at Buckingham Athletic’s ground on Monday 7th May

Bines Brace Gives Robins win.

Eynesbury Rovers 1 Buckingham Town 2 (Bines)

Buckingham got a much needed win on saturday as they defeted Eynesbury Rovers at Hall Road.
Both sides had chances in an end to end opening.
Eynesbury took a first half lead through Tom Coles who netted after 21 minutes, slotting home from a Ryan Inskip pass.
Rovers were thwarted by young Robins goalkeeper Zac Wade on a number of occasions before the interval.
The second half team talk and a few fire works saw a more determined Buckingham as they took the game to Eynesbury.
Nick Bines equalised seven minutes after the restart, beating Carl Mackney with a low shot, and after further home openings went begging he followed up with an 84th minute winner for the Robins, firing home a free kick from a wide position on the right.

The Buckingham Derby against Olney Town finished all square at the Winslow Centre.
The Robins enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges with Nick Bines giving the visiting defence problems, while Ben Shepherd shone for the home side with an excellent work ethic in midfield.
Kyle Stimpson headed home Joel McCormick's free kick from the right flank on 34 minutes before another McCormick free kick found Stimpson again as he showed a superb spring and out jumped two central defenders to head past the keeper just three minutes later.
In the 53rd minute James Fletcher slotted home before Stuart Allan levelled fifteen minutes from time.
In the closing stages Both Wardell and McCormick had glorious chances to wrap the game up for the Robins but the game ended even.

Shepherds "SCREAMER"

Rothwell Corinthains 1 - 1 BTFC

An entertaining encounter at Sergeants Lawn ended with honours even. Buckingham started strongly forcing a number of early corners, but were unable to make the breakthrough. It was Corinths who went ahead with their first real chance after 22 minutes, Sam Johnson netting with a fierce cross shot from the edge of the box.Nick Bines almost levelled two minutes later, breaking clear on the right, but his first effort was saved by home custodian Ben Holdsworth with a defender blocking the follow up.Ben Shepherd wasted a good chance for the Robins, shooting wildly after a fine run.
At the other end Shaun Morris and Tony Ielapi created an opening for Elliot Roberts to shoot wide.
At the start of the second half Sam Johnson shot over for Corinthians after being played clear by strike partner Ielapi. End to end play saw Graham Sands shoot just too high from a deep Bines corner, and when Corinths replied Luke Bewers' well struck effort from distance found Zac Wade well placed to save. Sam Barker's goal line clearance denied Sam Johnson his second goal after the home keeper had taken the ball round Wade.
Buckingham levelled after 66 minutes, substitute James Wardell's pass picking out Shepherd "WHO SCREAMED LIKE A GIRL" and coolly sat Holdsworth on the floor before slotting home.

Buckingham: Zac Wade, Daley Cross, Sam Barker, Daryl Phillips, Jako Kasprzyk, Graham Sands, Ben Shepherd, Pat Diamond, Kyle Stimpson, Paul Hull (James Wardell), Nick Bines (Ieuan Riley).

BTFC Development 2-1 Wolverton Town

Another encouraging showing today as this young group of players picked up their first win of the season (The previous win was with a completely different set of players back in August).

The back four of Sam Benson, Lewis Hayes, Ollie Bruce and Joe Smith all performed solidly in front of Zac Wade in goal and rarely looked threatened. Mike went 5 across midfield with Corey Ringer on the right, Jason Gardiner on the left and skipper Jamie Hyde one of 3 centre mids alongside Jimmy Richardson and Jeff Boateng Bekoe, Josh Whitehead was the lone front man.

Wolverton went one up early with a wonder strike but BTFC hit back almost immediately as Jamie Hyde reacted quickest in the six yard box following a Josh Whitehead knock down. Jeff Boateng Bekoe put BTFC 2-1 ahead with a well taken goal later in the first half and in truth the young Robins could have won by a much more comfortable margin as they failed to capitalise on several one on ones.

It certainly wasn't the best Wolverton Town team I have seen in recent times but I don't want to take anything away from the boys today, they have come a long way this season and with the right support, coaching and opportunities they will continue to flourish.

I thought all the lads played well today particularly Sam at right back, Lewis Hayes won pretty much every header at centre back and showed good recovery pace. Jimmy Richardson gave a tidy and hard working performance in the more defensive midfield role and Jamie Hyde worked his socks off and led by example. Jeff Boateng Bekoe appears to be one of those exciting players with bags of skill and with a bit more coaching (mainly when to release the ball!) he could be one to watch. I was impressed with Josh Whitehead too who showed a maturity above his years, he worked tirelessly in what can be a thankless lone striker role and did a great job for the team.

Hopefully they can build on this result between now and the end of the season.

The Robins on top over the Royals

Buckingham Town 4 Potton United 1

Buckingham returned to winning ways to complete a double over the Royals.
Paul Hull gave the Robins a sixth minute lead slotting home after good work from McCormick but James Worboys levelled for Potton a minute from the end of the first half.
The second half was more entertaining, and it was the last 20 minutes that provided vital for the Robins to secure the victory.
A change was needed Paul Hull made way for Sol Kazongo and Nick Bines moved up front to partner Joel McCormick.

This gave Buckingham a extra edge up front and still gave the option of width and pace on the flank.
Chris Robson restored the home lead on 73 minutes, then Joel McCormick smashed home a Robins third after 85 minutes and the finishing touch was presented by debutant Sol Kazongo who impressed and completed the scoring in the final minute to make it
4-1

Matt Bines, Daley Cross, Daryl Phillips, Kyle Stimpson, Jakub Kasprzyk, Pat Diamond, Ben Shepherd, Chris Robson, Joel McCormick, Paul Hull (Sol Kazongo)
Subs - not used: Baldwin, Barker, Wade

We started well and scored an early goal, BUT then let Potton into the game, this was not what we required and strong words were said at half time.
The second half proved the better and players upped their game and advanced with the correct attacking football, also offering more belief in their play.
4-1 was a good result and I was happy with the second half performance.
The players realised that the first half performance was not acceptable and giving your all for the shirt is a must!!

Chairmans Report

I have been asked to put this weeks report on the web site with a small change as I was 8 months out with one of my facts. :)

I couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the Greek people’s situation and that of Buckingham Town, through no fault of our own we find ourselves paying for the actions and others miss management and unsustainable spending. But unlike the Greek people we will not have to suffer for ten years to get back to where we were. In truth we will be financially better off and in better facilities in probably two years.

I know the Winslow Centre is not perfect and given the choice we would not be here but this is where we are and it was the last and only venue approved by the league, but if we are honest the pitch is no worse that Ford Meadow after its 90+ games and 50 ton of sand. And yes we don’t have stands here but no one really used them at Ford Meadow.

I guess what I am saying is, it’s not great but we all need to get on with it and we are in a much better place than Rushden and Diamonds or Kettering and many other clubs.

Looking at a 10 to15 mile radius of Buckingham, there are four clubs who play at a higher level than us, Aurdley, Brackley, Newport Pagnell and the MK Dons and to be fare they all pay high wages and have the pick of the best players, although the Dons and Brackley don’t sign local players, and Aurdley don’t draw from our catchments area. But that’s it, only four.

When we move to our new home, with the exception of Stadium MK we will have the best ground locally and offer a good level of football, we should have our pick of the players; although I would hope we will remember those who have supported us through these dark times.

With over 40,000 football clubs, England has more clubs involved in the code than any other country. However there are only 273 full or associate member clubs which make up the FA, of which Buckingham Town is one.

Buckingham Town was formed in 1883, as we all know, which makes us older than Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham, not to mention, the Eiffel Tower, The Statue of Liberty and Tower Bridge, I could go on but you get the picture.

Buckingham Town has lasted through two world wars, Queen Victoria, Edward VII , George V , Edward VIII, Jack the Ripper, Vincent van Gogh, Tchaikovsky, so we can take a blip in our very long history, to put things in place for our next 129 years.

Some interesting facts from the web site stats, amount of people and the countries who have viewed our site: United Kingdom 2,769, United States 367, Russia 198, Germany 122, Singapore 71, Spain 60, Latvia 42, Sweden 20, Ukraine 20, Brazil 19

We are not a small club and we have a great and proud history, 129 years and counting.
Once again I would like to thank all our fans for their patients and support.

Development Squad

I'm sure you have by now seen the forum post by Development team manager Mike Ringer with a very detailed and enthusiastic match report, replicated here on the front page by a BTFC official.

I did not attend the first team game at the weekend so I am not in a position to comment on what went wrong etc. I am genuinely not looking to gloss over the weekends result, I'm sure somebody who did see the game could offer a report for better or worse. I would just like to add my congratulations to Mike and his players for a very good result at the weekend, when you consider that in the reverse fixture against Grendon Matt Bines, Pat Diamond, Nick Bines, Jakub Kasprzyk, James Wardell, Chris Robson and Kyle Stimpson all played and suffered a 0-3 defeat it shows how well the young fellas did on Saturday.

Mike has been trying to keep records and stats on the following website, it is well worth a look for us Robins fans and I certainly think you should take note of some of the names as I'm sure they will have a bright future for this club.
